When to See a Doctor
Thailand is a rabies risk country, and Phuket sees regular bite cases involving street dogs, temple monkeys and unvaccinated pets. Post-exposure treatment is a short series of vaccine doses over several visits, and the schedule starts ideally within 24 hours of the exposure. If you plan months in Southeast Asia or ride a motorbike daily, pre-exposure vaccination, two doses seven days apart, simplifies everything if a bite ever happens.
Wash any bite or scratch with soap and running water for a full 15 minutes before you do anything else. It is the single most effective first-aid step against rabies. Then come in the same day: deep bites, bites to the head or hands, and bites from monkeys or unknown dogs are exactly the cases where waiting is dangerous.

No. Start as soon as possible, but the vaccine series is still given days after an exposure. Come in today rather than writing it off.
Do I need rabies immunoglobulin as well?
It depends on the wound category and your vaccination history. Higher-risk exposures in unvaccinated patients need immunoglobulin alongside the vaccine, and the doctor will assess this and arrange the right facility immediately if so.
