When to See a Doctor
Modern fourth-generation tests detect both HIV antibodies and the p24 antigen, which closes most of the gap between exposure and detectability. As a practical rule, a fourth-generation test is considered reliable from about 45 days after an exposure, and many infections are detectable well before that. Testing earlier still has value, it just needs a confirmatory retest at the right interval, and we schedule that for you rather than leaving you to count days alone.
If your possible exposure was within the last 72 hours, testing is not the urgent decision, PEP is. Tell us the timing honestly and we will handle both in the same visit.

How accurate is the rapid test?
Fourth-generation rapid tests are highly accurate outside the window period. Any reactive result is always confirmed with laboratory testing before a diagnosis is made.
